Completing the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program offers several benefits for parents and caregivers, which include:
• Giving a parent or care giver an understanding of a child’s emotional world, enabling them to understand cues, and respond appropriately.
• The program enables parents and caregivers to understand emotional regulation and development, aiding them in helping their child to manage their emotions.
• Separately the program also explores the regulation of stressful states. This focuses on the caregivers capacity to manage both their own and their child’s stress benefitting the whole family dynamics.
• The program works to enhance the self esteem of the child and parent, fostering a positive sense of self and connected identities.
• The fundamental drive in this program is to promote an understanding of secure attachment. It honours the need for the child’s need for security and the parents desire to be the best version of themselves as a parent.
• To understand the needs of a child as they grow we need to observe and reflect on how they are connecting and sharing their needs. This program shows parents how reflection and observation, offers a continuous improvement in caregiving skills.
• Empathy for a child relies on a parent/caregiver connecting with and understanding their child’s needs and feelings, of their perspective and how they see their caregivers. This program builds skills that enables a caregiver to see what is happening for the child and how to respond appropriately.
• Threaded through the full program parents and caregivers are educated on the complexities of the attachment system and how this contributes to their child’s, security and development into adulthood.
• The Circle of Security Parenting Program creates a new language which becomes adopted by parents/caregivers. This language is designed to simplify what can be a complex theory and enable parents to apply practical terms and skills that maintains continuous improvement in navigating relationships.
The COSP program is designed as a preventive intervention and is delivered over 8 weekly sessions. It can be delivered one to one with parents/caregivers, as a couple or in a group setting.

The Circle of Security Parenting Program is for parents or caregivers who are looking to developing their parenting knowledge and experience.
As well as being a go to program for parents/caregivers who are looking to increase their skills and knowledge in parenting their children, the COSP program is recognised as an out of court disposal that enables a parent or caregiver to access support and work preventitively where family court, child protection services, Cafcass, legal guardians court processes, offering parents the ability to show commitment and a willingness to understand and meet their children's needs.
As well as being a go to program for parents or caregivers who are generally looking to understand their children better increasing their knowledge and skills, the COSP program is recognised as an out of court disposal that enables a parent or caregiver to support their involvement within the legal system.
As an legally accepted parenting program the COSP Program can be accessed by parents/caregivers joining our program through their own initiative in support of a court process they may be going through or they can be referred by legal or agency referrals.
Out-of-court disposals offer several benefits for parents, criminal courts, and family courts:
1. Parents:
· Avoiding Criminal Records: Parents can avoid having a criminal record by participating in diversion programs or alternative resolutions. This is especially important for minor offenses i.e. smacking.
· Education and Support: Out-of-court disposals often involve educational programs or counselling. Parents can learn better parenting techniques, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
· Faster Resolution: These disposals are typically quicker than criminal court proceedings and in family court can allow parents to address issues promptly.
· Child-Centric Approach: Family courts aim to prioritise the best interests of the child. Out-of-court disposals align with this focus.
· Preserving Relationships: Alternative resolutions can help maintain family relationships by addressing conflicts without adversarial court battles.
Overall, out-of-court disposals promote efficiency, education, and family well-being.
We know that mum and dad are key to a child's emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing, that by understanding how attachment is a crucial part of this, they will be protecting and preventing the issues associated with adverse childhood experiences.

The Circle of Security Parenting Program works from the understanding that there is no such thing as a perfect parent, that what we need to aim for is to be good enough. This is educated wisdom that celebrates the knowledge gained from 50 years of attachment research and the delivery of this program since 2007. What we also know is that it is ‘never to late’ to learn.
